2014 National Challenge
In 2014, we hosted the first National KidWind Challenge at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, DC in April. The four-day Festival was attended more than 325,000 people, and our booth was usually full to capacity. Teams were invited after placing at a regional Challenge Event or winning the monthly Online Challenge.
Thirty three teams from ten states came together for one of the biggest Challenges KidWind has ever hosted. Middle school team Wind Surfers of DeAnza Academy of Technology and the Arts in Ventura, CA and high school team Blade Runners from Copley High School in Copley, OH won the $1000 grand prizes, generating energy outputs of 128 and 153.4 Joules respectively. That’s some of the highest energy production we’ve ever seen at a Challenge!
